What is the Canine Academy?
Canine Academy is a center for higher learning for dogs and their people. It’s where good dogs get better while having a great time!  We believe in teaching dogs good manners, and we call that Better Companion Training.  We feel that all dogs should know Basic Obedience.  We believe that socializing along with mental stimulation and physical exercise is KEY to a happy, healthy and well-mannered dog!

What kind of training do you offer?
We offer only positive reinforcement training using reward-based methods. It is the most gentle, humane way to train dogs while improving the dog’s communication skills, building self-confidence and promoting trust. We currently offer Basic Obedience, Better Companion training and limited Behavior Modification Training.  For dogs that have already had some training, we offer Maintenance Training.

Is there a program available where I take my dog home every night?
Yes, if you select the daycare training program, your dog would come for daycare and training, but go home every night.

How old does my dog need to be to come for training?
Dogs must be at least 16 weeks of age and fully vaccinated to come to Canine Academy.

Is there an enrollment process?
Yes.  The process begins with an interview with one of our trainers and the completion of our enrollment form. A curriculum will be created based on you dog's individual needs.  You will then make a reservation with our staff and be on your way to a better trained dog! 

Will I need to continue training my dog after my dog comes home, or will the dog know what to do?
Having your dog trained is a very important part of improving your life together, but like any committed relationship, you will have to work at it.  After completing the training, your dog will have newly acquired knowledge, but it's up to you to decide how that knowledge is integrated into every day life.

Will I be able to come in and work with the trainer and my dog so I can learn how to train my dog?
Sessions with our trainer are a very important part of the program.  Much of the success of the training will depend on the continuation of the training at home.

Is there help available if I am having problems with the training once I take my dog home?
Of course!  We are here to help you and we're just a phone call away. Training dogs is a skill, and it is our goal to help you learn and master this skill.

What material will I receive to help me continue my dogs training at home?
You will be provided with written homework specific to your dog.  If training while boarding, you will receive a videotape showing your dog completing the exercises with our trainer, a final written exam as well as a handsome diploma.. We will email photos of your dog’s stay, and print a few to take home.
